Ottawa's fifth annual Capital Burlesque Expo joins burlesque, drag, circus and variety performers from near and far for three extravagant days! Coming up in Ottawa, Canada from April 12th to 14th, 2019 this festival aims to excite, entertain and educate with a series of shows, workshops, bazaars and parties! Join us at the 2019 Capital Burlesque Expo as we celebrate the art of tease!
The burlesque revival began to shimmy its way in to Ottawa in 2002 with showcases opening for bands and comedy shows. By 2007 troupes were producing their own headlining events and beginning to put Ottawa on the burly map. By 2008 there was enough interest that classes became available. In 2014 the Capital Burlesque Expo united more than 50 performers from across Canada and the USA with Ottawa's first multi day burlesque festival!
Burlesque is creative and entertaining.
It's funny, exciting; it's sexy, enticing.
Burlesque is body positive and inclusive.
It's rude, it's crude, it's raunchy, it's lewd.
Burlesque is empowering and liberating.
It's political, ironical, satirical, and comical.
Burlesque is beautiful.
It's subversive, immersive, distinctive, perversive.
Burlesque is art.
